In a ceremony organized by the Union of Journalists of Cuba (Upec) at its national headquarters in Havana, the renowned Cuban actor and director Patricio Wood will receive this Thursday, October 5, at 2 in the afternoon, the Award that the Circle of Upec Cultural Journalists awarded him for his documentary Esa es la vida, Octavio (2021).

The audiovisual presented in the last edition of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema is a biographical show with which Wood honors the life and work of the great filmmaker Octavio Cortázar, whom Patricio considers a father in art.”

According to the author’s statements to Cubarte, the “project does not escape the desire, the deep longing to search my affections.” Precisely, that relationship of respect, affection and friendship had its foundations during the filming of the film Border Guard (1980).

With a duration of 30 minutes, the production of the documentary occurred after being awarded in the second call of the Cuban Cinema Promotion Fund.

Patricio Wood was born in Havana on January 31, 1961. Son of the very first actors, Salvador Wood and Yolanda Pujols, he began his performances in various television programs, such as Los commandos del fuego (1968). When he was barely a teenager he made his film debut with a leading character in the film El brigadista (1977), directed by Octavio Cortázar.
