JAKARTA – The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) encourages the implementation of sustainable construction principles that pay attention to the environment. One of them is by encouraging the use of appropriate materials that are environmentally friendly.

“One of which is environmentally friendly cement material, or what is better known as Non Ordinary Portland Cement (non-OPC),” said the Director General of Construction Development at the Ministry of PUPR, Rachman Arief in his official statement, quoted on Sunday (8/10/2023 ).

Cement is a very important raw material in construction work, because determining the type of cement will affect the implementation process and the resulting construction results. Rachman said that non-OPC cement has several advantages, both from a technical, economic and environmental perspective.

The PUPR Ministry has several regulations regarding procedures and instructions for using non-OPC cement in construction work. Among other things, through the Circular Letter of the Minister of PUPR No. 07/2016 concerning Guidelines for Procedures for Determining Normal Concrete Mixtures with OPC, PPC and PCC Cement, which is a guide to the use of non-OPC cement types according to the type of building construction.

Then, PUPR Minister’s Instruction No. 04/IN/M/2020 concerning the Use of Non-OPC Cement in Construction Work at the PUPR Ministry, which is an effort to encourage the use of non-OPC cement in construction work at the PUPR Ministry as an effort to realize sustainable construction development.

Support for the use of non-OPC cement was expressed by the General Chair of the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) Lilik Unggul Raharjo. He said, SASI and related stakeholders were ready to successfully optimize the use of environmentally friendly semeh at the PUPR Ministry in the context of sustainable construction development.

Lilik also said that from 2010 to 2022, the carbon intensity of the Indonesian cement industry has been reduced from 725 kg CO2 per ton of cementitious to 631.70 kg CO2 per ton of cementitious, achieving an absolute emission reduction of 6.54 million tons of CO2 or a decrease of 12 .9%.
