Under the motto ‘neither amnesty nor self-determination’, thousands of people demonstrated this Sunday in Barcelona. 300,000 people according to the Catalan Civil Society (SCC) and 50,000 according to the Urban Guard.
The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has assured that “the presidency of the Government of Spain cannot be sold or negotiated based on a reactionary decision” such as the amnesty for those accused of the process. In statements before participating in the demonstration called by the Catalan Civil Society in the center of Barcelona against the amministy, the leader of the PP has cried out against what he considers “a cacicada inappropriate for a democracy and an open and plural society.” .
For her part, the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, assured this Sunday that the acting president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, “intends to lead” Spain “into a dead end and in a tyrannical manner” change of getting the support of the seven Junts deputies for his investiture.

At the end of the demonstration there were some moments of tension between some protesters and people who expressed their rejection of the protest, although there were no reports of attacks.
One of these moments was recorded on Passeig de Gràcia when a young woman displayed a t-shirt in favor of Terra Lliure, who was insulted. Six years ago, in the large SCC demonstration in 2017 against the independence process, Barcelona City Council offered a figure of 350,000 attendees at the protest while SCC raised it to one million people.
For his part, the president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Pere Aragonès, has stated that the demonstration in Barcelona against the amnesty is “the confirmation of a failure of the right and the extreme right” in their plan of “revenge against Catalonia” .
