How to receive and apply for Bolsa Família? Bolsa Família is the largest income transfer program in Brazil, internationally recognized for having saved millions of families from hunger. The Federal Government relaunched the program with more protection for families, with a benefit model that takes family size and characteristics into account; those with three or more people will receive more than one person living alone.
In addition to guaranteeing basic income for families in poverty, the Bolsa Família Program seeks to integrate public policies, strengthening families’ access to basic rights such as health, education and social assistance. Bolsa Família will rescue the dignity and citizenship of families also by acting in complementary actions through articulation with other policies to overcome poverty and social transformation, such as social assistance, sport, science and work.
Who is entitled?
To be entitled to Bolsa Família, the main rule is that the income of each person in the family must be a maximum of R$218 per month. In other words, if a family member receives a minimum wage (R$1,302), and there are six people in that family, each person’s income is R$217. As it is below the limit of R$218 per person, this family has the right to receive the benefit.
How to Receive?
Firstly, you must be registered in the Single Registry, with correct and updated data. This registration is done at social assistance service points in municipalities, such as CRAS. You must present your CPF or voter registration card.
Remembering that, even if registered in the Single Registry, the family does not immediately enter Bolsa Família. Every month, the program automatically identifies the families that will be included and will begin receiving the benefit.
