Despite sanctions and rising prices, at the end of last year in Russia the number of luxury cars over 10 million rubles increased by almost a quarter (22%). About it reported RBC with reference to calculations by analysts of the auditing and consulting network FinExpertiza based on Federal Tax Service data.
At the end of 2022, the number of such cars in Russia exceeded 19,800, while in 2021 – 16,200. In pre-Covid 2019, 8,100 people owned luxury cars, that is, in four years their number has increased by almost 2 ,5 times.
According to analysts, tax charges on these cars to the Federal Tax Service also increased last year, and the increase in tax funds was stronger than the increase in the vehicle fleet itself. At the end of 2022, the Federal Tax Service received 3.34 billion rubles, which is 31% more by 2021. On average, each owner of a luxury car paid 169,000 rubles.
Leader among regions in the number of cars costing more than 10 million rubles. is Moscow, which accounted for over 40% of premium cars in all of Russia (8,200 cars). The top three also included St. Petersburg (2000) and the Moscow region (1600). In other regions, the number of such machines does not exceed a thousand. These cities also lead in the growth of the number of expensive cars in absolute terms. In particular, at the end of 2022, in Moscow their number increased by 1800 units, in the Moscow region – by 270 units, and in St. Petersburg – by 209 units.
A transport tax with an increasing coefficient on cars began to be applied in 2014, when the corresponding amendments were introduced into the Tax Code (TC) of the Russian Federation. Until 2022, it was valid only for vehicles (vehicles) more expensive than 3 million rubles. In total, the updated list of cars that are subject to the “luxury tax” contains 449 cars costing more than 10 million rubles. The tax rate also depends on the age of the car. The new rules apply to those car owners who purchased a car after January 1, 2022.
