Nearly a thousand people gathered in Sarcelles (Val-d’Oise) on Saturday to denounce the future extension of the Parisis intercommunal boulevard (BIP). This expressway project, which should ultimately connect the A1 and the A15, was born decades ago. It is today supported by the departmental council and the region, reports The Parisian.
The demonstrators were accompanied by several associations and numerous elected officials. They denounce an outdated project which would be a disaster for the environment. “The construction of this expressway would destroy around a hundred hectares of natural space and thousands of trees, and would threaten the health of 10,000 children whose schools are on the route,” indicates the Vivre sans BIP sur X collective.
Start of work in 2024?
For the moment, the project is blocked by the courts but the departmental council has appealed to the Court of Cassation. In the event of victory, “the declaration of public utility could take place at the end of the year and the work could begin in 2024”, fears a representative of the Vivre sans BIP collective. But the demonstrators do not intend to give up and are already preparing new mobilizations.
