Colts Rookie QB Anthony Richardson Sidelined Again with Shoulder Injury

Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson suffered a shoulder injury during Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans, marking the third time in the past five weeks that the first-round draft pick has been forced to the sidelines. According to NFL Media, Richardson has been diagnosed with a Grade 3 AC joint sprain and could potentially miss at least a month or longer as a result of the injury.

Richardson underwent an MRI at an imaging center, as reported by CBS Sports Senior NFL Insider Josina Anderson. Despite not requiring hospitalization, Richardson plans to seek a second opinion regardless of the initial scan results.

The injury occurred in the second quarter when Richardson fell on his right shoulder after being tackled by Tennessee’s Harold Landry. He was subsequently taken to the locker room for further evaluation, with backup Gardner Minshew taking over as the team’s quarterback.

Initially deemed questionable to return by the Colts, Richardson was officially ruled out early in the second half of the game.

The Florida product, who was drafted fourth overall in the spring, had previously missed Week 3 due to a concussion suffered in the previous game. He also briefly left the Colts’ season opener with a lower-leg injury suffered late in their loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

During Richardson’s absence, Minshew stepped up as the team’s starting quarterback in their matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, leading the Colts to an unexpected victory. Against the Titans on Sunday, Richardson completed 9 of 12 passes for 98 yards before leaving the game.

The Colts will now have to rely on Minshew to fill in for Richardson while he recovers from his shoulder injury.
