TORREÓN, COAHUILA.- Federal representative José Antonio Gutiérrez Jardón, pointed out that one of the most ambitious plans of the current administration was the supposed “rescue” of Mexican Petroleum (Pemex), whose objective was to increase oil production and gasoline refining; However, he noted that he became a “white elephant” with no results despite the resources injected.

He commented that during the appearance of the head of Pemex, Octavio Romero Oropeza, the member of the PRI Parliamentary Group specified that this is evident when the amount of fuel production, for 2023, was forecast at 1.33 million barrels per day, an unmet goal. and only 843 thousand barrels have been reached.

He considered that, to this negative outlook, Pemex’s bad financial situation is added. According to the latest reports published in the Mexican Stock Exchange, the parastatal’s profits plummeted by 80 percent in the second quarter of this year.

The PRI legislator indicated that this trend of the last five years is revealed with the pharaonic work of the Olmeca Refinery, in Dos Bocas, where the Superior Audit of the Federation detected nine processes of direct awarding of works to contractors, which shows a project without transparency and with cost overruns.

The same thing, he noted, happened with the initial budget of eight billion pesos, which will end up amounting to 22 billion dollars.

QUESTION PRICE OF GASOLINES

For this reason, he also questioned where the famous 10-peso gasoline is; Now, he specified, we are paying 25 pesos per liter in Mexico City, a price that is totally far from the ideal world of the Morena government in 2018, when they were 14 or 15 pesos.

In addition, Gutiérrez Jardón explained that in the financial balance, the parastatal had a deficit of 17,899 million pesos from January to May 2023, which implies, he said, a decline of 36,551 million pesos compared to the same period. of 2022.

With these considerations, he asked what strategies and actions are going to be implemented to face the decreases in crude oil extraction without further damaging the financial situation of Pemex and the country.
