Resident died in fire in Bludenz social center

by time news

A 61-year-old wheelchair user died of his injuries on Friday after an unexplained fire in a social center in Bludenz. As reported by the Vorarlberg police, the fire brigade and emergency doctor were alerted shortly before 1 p.m. because of a burning person on a balcony. According to the current state of investigation, the resident is said to have smoked beforehand and textiles or parts of the wheelchair could have caught fire.

When the police patrol arrived, the resident, who was sitting in a wheelchair, had already been extinguished on the balcony by first responders. The investigations by the Bludenz police and the Vorarlberg State Criminal Police Office initially did not reveal any evidence of third-party fault, but the Feldkirch public prosecutor’s office ordered an autopsy to clarify the exact cause of death.
