The doors of the CCI-Benin are open to the public on Thursdays in October 2023 to discover the wonders of processing local products. ‘Made in Benin’ products which have received authorization for marketing on the national, regional and international market are in the spotlight at the Benin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI-Benin) throughout the month of october. This exhibition-sale tasting fair organized by the Chamber intends to support private sector companies in gaining greater visibility on the market. The companies or production units which are positioned at the fair have obtained their marketing certificate and their products meet regulatory standards. The Chamber invites and encourages other businesses to also comply with the regulations.
The “special tasting of local products” Thursdays were launched by the Coordinating Vice-President of the CCI-Benin regions, Christiane Codjo Tossou. According to the vice-president, the tasting evening highlights the productions of private companies in Benin. It is a space that promotes typically Beninese products on internal and external markets. The initiative is in line with the month of local consumption established by UEMOA member countries. Addressing business leaders involved in transformation, Christiane Tossou indicated that “the vision of President Patrice Talon’s government is to make Benin a country which produces what it consumes, but also which transforms what it he must consume and who consumes what he produces.” For public health challenges “we cannot put on the market products that we ask the population to consume if these products have not received a minimum of certification. If we are not sure that these products are good for health,” explained the vice-president. Finally, she invited the Beninese to consume locally to ensure the survival of processing companies.
Consuming locally is an integration activity carried out by the ministers of the West African Monetary Union (UEMOA) in charge of trade, who recognize that despite efforts to promote national resources through the local processing of products, consumption habits within the union are increasingly oriented outward.
In recent years, Benin has experienced strong growth in the various links of production and processing thanks to the diligence and perfection of the players in the different sectors of activity. Despite these efforts, we can still see that the results obtained in terms of sales still remain low. This perhaps justifies the increase in the price of locally processed products. To this end, Benin has aligned itself with other UEMOA countries to promote local products. For three years, he has initiated “the month of local consumption”, an event which covers the entire month of October and highlights ‘Made in Benin’ products.

Augustin Brutus, a Frenchman visiting Benin for the first time.
“The products from Benin that I tasted are well made. The question I asked myself is this. Are these products accessible to the middle class public or are these products too expensive and only the rich could afford them?

Béatrice Akpa, Beninese trader
” It is well done. I really appreciated it. May God accompany them. Certain products like mango juice and sugar-free baobab juice are well made.”
