Bruna Valeanu, 24, moved from Rio de Janeiro to Tel Aviv about ten years ago with her family in search of greater security, among other things. Student of communication and marketing at Tel Aviv University, Bruna was at a music festival in the southern district of Israel, less than 20 km from the Gaza Strip, which was attacked last Saturday (7), at the beginning of hostilities. Since then, her family has not been able to contact her.
According to Nathalia, one of her sisters who still lives in Rio, Bruna called her mother, who lives on the outskirts of the Israeli capital, on Saturday morning, but she was sleeping. Then, when she woke up to warning sirens to take shelter in a bunker due to intensifying airstrikes, she called her daughter, who allegedly told her that she was fine. “Maybe to not worry our mother, who would surely get very nervous,” says Nathalia.
However, Bruna later contacted friends and work colleagues and told them that she was in a wooded area, with shootings and many injured people around her. The last time she connected to WhatsApp was at 9:21 on Saturday. A friend who was at the party said they hid in a kibbutz, a kind of local farming community. At one point, he managed to escape. Bruna and one of her co-workers stayed. Until now there is no news of both. Bruna has dual nationality and served in the Israeli Army until 2021.
The last unofficial information the family received came from the brother of a person present at the festival, who reported that everyone, including Bruna, had been injured but could not be rescued.
