The NBA continues its expansion process around the world. After several teams have done the preseason in countries like the United Arab Emirates, now the American competition wants to stop in Spain.
As has been pointed out for weeks, one of the NBA’s objectives is to play at the Santiago Bernabéu. The white fiefdom is still under construction but when these are finished in December of this year, the New Bernabéu will be ready to host practically any type of event.
Mark Tatum, one of the members of the commission in charge of deciding on the NBA expansion process, has assured that the Real Madrid stadium is an unbeatable setting: “I have had the opportunity to see the new Bernabéu and it is incredible what have done there.”
“I have seen the system with which they raise and lower the grass, it will be a world-class stadium. If the circumstances arise, we would love to play there,” he said in statements reported in ‘EFE’.
Furthermore, Tatum himself has also pointed out the importance of the NBA settling in markets such as Spain: “Germany, Spain, Italy are important markets for us. Some are conditioned by not having those facilities, although there are new projects. We are open to play matches elsewhere”.
