UK Morning News Anchor Holly Willoughby Steps Down After Alleged Murder Plot

Popular UK morning news anchor Holly Willoughby has announced her departure from her long-time role as co-host of ITV’s “This Morning” following an alleged murder plot targeting her. The decision comes after a difficult period for Willoughby and her family.

Last week, Willoughby was moments away from going on air when the Metropolitan police arrested Gavin Plumb for allegedly plotting to abduct and murder her. Plumb, a shopping center security officer, has been charged with soliciting a man to commit murder and incitement to commit a kidnapping. He allegedly conspired with another man, David Nelson from the US, to carry out the crime.

The plot was foiled a week before Nelson was scheduled to arrive in the UK. Police found various items linked to the crime, including chloroform, cable ties, a blindfold, and ropes, when they raided Plumb’s home in Essex.

Since the incident, Willoughby had been under police protection, and her decision to step down from her role on “This Morning” is in the best interest of her husband and three children. In a statement, she expressed gratitude to everyone she worked with on the show and thanked the viewers for their loyalty and support.

Kevin Lygo, ITV’s managing director of media and entertainment, praised Willoughby’s contributions to the program and hinted at future collaborations with her. He emphasized that she remains a beloved member of the ITV family.

Willoughby’s departure follows a wave of support from fans and colleagues who expressed concern for her safety. She will be greatly missed on “This Morning,” but her decision reflects the priority she places on her family’s well-being.

Plumb is scheduled to appear in Chelmsford Crown Court for a plea hearing on November 3. The motive behind the alleged plot remains unclear.
