Thailand Sees Massive Increase in Influenza Cases, Urges Vaccination
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teera Worathanarat, a renowned medical expert from the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University, recently took to Facebook to address the concerning influenza situation in Thailand. According to his message, the number of monthly influenza cases in the country has skyrocketed, with each month in 2023 reporting more than five times the number of cases compared to the previous year.
Analyzing the data from January to September 2023, Dr. Teera revealed that the number of monthly cases in each of these months was significantly higher than the same month in 2022. The statistics are alarming, with January reporting a staggering 5.2 times more cases, followed by February with 7.6 times, March with 3.5 times, April with 3.8 times, May with 5.3 times, June with 6.9 times, July with 7.2 times, August with 6.4 times, and September with 5.1 times more cases.
This surge in influenza cases has raised concerns among health authorities and the general public alike. Dr. Teera emphasized that the spread of various infectious diseases, including the flu, largely depends on daily living habits and individual risk factors.
