KIBBUTZ NIT YITZHAK – In a harrowing incident, Diana and Moshe Rosen, long-time residents of Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak, were kidnapped by terrorists from the Gaza Strip on Saturday morning. However, through their resourcefulness and bravery, they managed to escape from their captors and return home.

Recounting the terrifying ordeal in an interview with N12, Moshe described the sequence of events: “We woke up to a red alert. We are used to this nightmare, but we quickly realized that this was a different event. At one point, we received a message that terrorist elements had entered the settlement. We heard extremely loud knocks on the door, and being in the protected area, I told Diana, ‘They are inside the house, they are here.'”

Describing the chaos that unfolded, Moshe continued, “We felt that they were tearing the house apart, breaking glass, overturning tables – destroying everything in their path. With great effort, we managed to hold the door shut, but they shot into the lock, and the door flew open. We sustained injuries while trying to prevent their entry.”

The couple was abducted by a group of five terrorists who forcefully led them across the separation fence. “The attackers took us outside the MMD and informed us that we should accompany them to the Gaza Strip. We walked through bushes and trees instead of the usual kibbutz paths, presumably to avoid being caught. Eventually, we reached a breached section of the fence. They warned us to remain quiet, signaling with a hand on our necks that speaking would be fatal,” explained Moshe.

Once under the control of the terrorists within Gaza, the courageous couple gathered their strength and resisted the abduction. “We dared to tell the terrorists that we simply couldn’t go to Gaza. We informed them about our injuries, urging them to take us to a hospital,” recounted Moshe and Diana. “We demanded an ambulance and a doctor, but the squad leader flatly refused. I told him, ‘Ambulance, hospital,’ to which he responded, ‘Sierra, Gaza.'”

In an unexpected turn of events, the Hamas squad surprisingly told the couple in English, “Okay, go.” Skeptical but hopeful, the Rosens cautiously walked away from the scene. “We turned away and left. In those agonizing seconds, we feared he would shoot us. We didn’t dare turn around to see what he was doing. Eventually, we arrived at what was our home, but now it no longer exists. There is no home,” expressed the couple.

As the inseparable couple, who had lived on the kibbutz for the past fifty years, embarked on their long journey following their escape, nearly an entire day elapsed before they reached Hadassah Ein-Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem for treatment. Dr. Aryeh Kendel, the director of the orthopedics department, provided an update on their condition: “The couple sustained injuries to their hands, but they are now recovering. Mrs. Rosen will soon be discharged, but Moshe will have to remain under our care for further treatment. When I explained this to them, Diana insisted on staying with Moshe. As far as we’re concerned, they can stay together.”

The astounding tale of Diana and Moshe Rosen’s bravery has captured the attention of the nation, highlighting the resilience and determination of the people of Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak in the face of adversity.
