Small Nuclear Power Plants: “Greenwashing a Retro Energy” | time.news

by time news

A study by the Science and Environment Forum considers the small reactors praised by the nuclear industry to be uneconomical and technically immature.

For the nuclear industry, the future has three letters: SMR – stands for “Small Modular Reactors”. These small reactors should be able to be built in a shorter time, no longer carry any risk and make a decisive contribution to securing energy demand in the climate crisis.

Vienna’s environmental councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky (SPÖ) has commissioned a study to have these claims of nuclear advocates sounded out. As a politician, he summarizes the results, also in connection with the taxonomy decision of the EU (which wants to classify nuclear power as a “green form of energy”), as follows: “This is greenwashing of retro energy. Nuclear power was not and is not an announcement to meet energy needs.”
