Coinciding with the October 12 Parade, ERC has presented a non-legal proposal in which it asks to suppress military parades or any military or military ceremony that involves superfluous military exhibition expenses.

It was the deputy Francesc-Marc Álvaro i Vidal who registered it and in it the Executive is also asked to cut the budget that the Ministry of Defense allocates to events such as the one held today in the Plaza de Neptuno.

The Republicans not only reproach the expense of October 12 but also remember that every May 30 the ‘Day of the Armed Forces’ is celebrated with a central event in some Spanish city, where a military parade is also held to mark that the Spanish Government “does not skimp on the squandering of public money either.”

The pro-independence supporters reproach “the opacity and difficulty” that prevents them from knowing exactly the spending in recent years, although the party estimates that spending on ‘Armed Forces Day’ has increased since 2017.

“It is time to leave behind the myth of Spanish colonization as a civilizing process and an idyllic meeting of two worlds without recognizing genocide, rape, enslavement or forced evangelization. Crimes against humanity that have never been repaired and that make invisible the historical and current violence against native peoples and their cultures, as well as the institutional and daily racism they suffer,” they noted.

Gabriel Rufián ironically stated on social network X that in Spain an “invasion” is called a “discovery.” The leader of ERC and Podemos agree on “stopping commemorating a genocide against the people of Latin America.”
