Amit Bar and Nir De Jorno, a young Israeli couple, were at the desert rave when the Hamas attack began. After escaping, hidden in the bushes, the two took a selfie while giving each other a kiss, fearing it would be the last. They survived, but are now looking for their friend, who is still missing
The photo was posted on Monday, a few days after the attack launched by Hamas on the Festival Supernova rave party, in the Negev desert, near Kibbutz Re’im. Since then, he has bounced from one account to another, carrying with him the story of the two people he portrays. Two survivors of the massacre. A boy and a girl. On the ground, in the middle of some bushes, they touch their lips with a kiss. They are Amit Bar and Nir De Jorno. They took this photo of themselves after escaping the festival grounds, while they were hidden to escape the murderous fury of Hamas terrorists. They feared it was the end for them. This is why they photographed themselves: to leave their loved ones a memory of their love.

She explained it herself on Instagram, in a long post — in Hebrew and English — in which she retraces those terrible hours. And, with them, the story of that photo. It all started with missiles, writes Bar, it was scary, but I tried to stay strong. Soon, however, people started running and shouting that there were terrorists. Thus begins the couple’s escape – and with them hundreds of other people — at first by car, then on foot. We heard bullets whistling near us, people were falling, terrorists were chasing us on motorcycles to assassinate us, the girl recalls. We could hear the shots passing above us. The terrorists were close. They shot at everything. We did everything we could not to move or make any noise. In the post, Bar directly addresses her partner: I told you that I had no strength left, but you told me that we had no choice and that we had to keep running. And then: Suddenly you decided to take a selfie. I got angry, I didn’t understand what the urgency was. But I said to myself: at least, if we are killed, our family will have a memory in which we loved each other until the last moment.

The closing of the post is bitter. You protected me with your body and I think of all the other couples for whom the ending was different.
