Hollywood Stands with Israel: More than 700 Entertainment Figures Sign Open Letter Condemning Hamas and Demanding Safe Return of Hostages
In a powerful display of solidarity with Israel, over 700 prominent figures from the entertainment industry have signed an open letter calling for the condemnation of Hamas and the safe return of hostages being held in Gaza. This letter, released by the nonprofit Creative Community for Peace, marks the first significant move from Hollywood to support Israel during the ongoing attacks.
Among the signatories are notable celebrities and Hollywood leaders including Gal Gadot, Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Pine, Mayim Bialik, Liev Schreiber, Amy Schumer, Michael Douglas, Jerry Seinfeld, Debra Messing, and Ryan Murphy. The letter urges the entertainment community at large to denounce Hamas, extend support to Israel, refrain from spreading misinformation about the war, and use their influence to pressure Hamas to release the hostages back to their families.
The release of this letter comes in the midst of Israel’s ongoing fight against Hamas. On October 7, Hamas launched a surprise ambush, firing thousands of rockets from Gaza, resulting in the brutal deaths of civilians in their homes and a massacre at a music festival for peace where 260 bodies were discovered. As of now, over 1,200 people have lost their lives in Israel, while more than 100 civilians have been kidnapped and held hostage. The scale of Jewish casualties in a single day has not been seen since the Holocaust. President Joe Biden has openly condemned Hamas as a terrorist organization and expressed unwavering support for Israel as it retaliates in Gaza, where at least 1,100 people have died.
According to Creative Community for Peace, citizens from various countries, such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, and Germany, have also been identified as either missing or killed in the attacks.
Actress Gal Gadot, known for her role as Wonder Woman, shared her deep sorrow over the lives lost and families shattered due to Hamas’ acts of terrorism and brutality. She expressed her prayers for everyone affected and called for the world to stand steadfast in supporting the Israeli people.
Media mogul Haim Saban emphasized the need for unity, stating that the Hollywood community and the world should come together to stand beside Israel as it defends itself against a terrorist regime in Gaza aiming to destroy the country.
Other notable figures who signed the letter include Bryan Lourd, Richard Lovett, Aaron Bay-Schuck, Jody Gerson, Ziggy Marley, Jenji Kohan, Jim Berkus, and Andy Garcia. The full list of signatories can be found on the Creative Community for Peace website.
In a separate letter published by the National Council of Jewish Women, more celebrities voiced their support for Israel and demanded the immediate release of hostages from Hamas. Signatories to this letter include Gadot, Messing, Schumer, Montana Tucker, and Mandy Moore. They called on governments, international organizations, and civil society groups to condemn these crimes and take action to secure the release of the hostages.
The entertainment industry’s open letter serves as a call to action to condemn Hamas’ acts of terrorism and demand the safe return of innocent hostages.
