Head of the duty team at the Male Penal Establishment of Corumbá sought out the 1st Civil Police Station in the city, 428 kilometers from Campo Grande, to report a colleague, a 58-year-old criminal police officer, who was facilitating the entry of drugs into the penal unit. The incident report was registered on Thursday morning (12).

According to police records, the suspect was working overtime on Wednesday (11), the day on which inmates’ families deliver their belongings to the penal unit. She would be responsible for searching the bags with clothes, hygiene materials and other things intended for the prisoners.

However, at around 3:05 pm, the team leader was at the access gate and saw the moment when the criminal police officer identified with her hand one of the bags for the inmates responsible for taking the items to the other prisoners. He then became suspicious of the situation, since everything is labeled with the name of the recipient.

He then waited for the inmates to approach with the bag cart and decided to search all the material again. At this time, they found a packaged cocaine tablet that would be given to a prisoner on suspicion of involvement in a homicide. Portions of the drug were also found hidden in washing powder marked with the letter J.

When questioned, the prisoners responsible for transporting the bags reported that they only picked up the packages at the reception and would deliver them to their recipients, but they did not know what was inside. The inmate who would receive the cocaine was taken to the disciplinary cell and then the team leader reported the situation to the prison director and to the person responsible for surveillance and security at the penal unit.

As a result, the inmate was heard and in his statement he said that another prisoner had asked him to receive the bag that had been delivered by his wife. The criminal police officer, responsible for searching the packages, was not there as she had finished her shift. The case was registered as qualified drug trafficking and is being investigated.
