In an interview with the New York Post, screenwriter Glenn Gordon Caron spoke about the health conditions of his friend, who retired from the scene following the diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia, revealing that he almost no longer speaks

Since Bruce Willis was diagnosed with aphasia in the spring of 2022 and, subsequently, with frontotemporal dementia, Glenn Gordon Caron (author of the sitcom «Moonlighting» which gave the actor fame in the 1980s), has been trying to go to find him at least once a month and is convinced that his friend recognizes him, even if he is losing his zest for life and his language skills. In practice, he now struggles to express himself and seeing him in those conditions is heartbreaking for those who love him. «I talk to him and his wife Emma and I have the feeling that he understands who I am for the first three minutes – Caron told the New York Post – . It’s not totally verbal. He was a voracious reader, but he didn’t want it known, and now he doesn’t read anymore. All those language skills are no longer available to him, and yet he’s still Bruce. When you’re with him, you know it’s Bruce and you’re grateful he’s there, but the joy of life is gone.”

Since the disease took over, Willis has had to retire from the scene, but his extended family (which includes his current wife, Emma Heming with daughters Mabel and Evelyn and ex Demi Moore with daughters Rumer, Scout and Tallulah) never left him for a second. “What makes his illness so shocking is that anyone who has spent time with Bruce Willis knows that there is no one who had more joy in life than him,” the screenwriter said. He loved life and tried to live it to the fullest and loved waking up in the morning. So the idea that he now sees life as if through a screen door makes very little sense. He is truly an extraordinary boy.”

Before Willis’ health worsened, Caron managed to tell him that all five seasons of “Moonlighting” would be streamed on Hulu, news that made him particularly happy. «The process of bringing “Moonlighting” to Hulu was long and Bruce’s illness is degenerative – concluded the author – but I managed to tell him (that it was all done) before his condition made him incapable of communicating as he is now and I know that it means a lot to him and that he is really happy that the show is available to everyone, even if he can’t tell me.”
