Anti-Corruption Department Registers Case Against Secretary Rameswara Murugan for Amassing Illegal Assets

The Anti-Corruption Department has recently registered a case against Rameswara Murugan, the Secretary of the Teacher Selection Board, along with six other individuals, including his wife. The case was filed after it was discovered that Murugan and his family had accumulated assets totaling 354.66 percent more than their reported income.

Murugan, who currently holds the position of Secretary in the Teacher Selection Board, has previously served in multiple positions within the school education department. Yesterday, the anti-corruption department officials conducted raids on properties linked to Murugan in Chennai and Coimbatore.

In response to the situation, the Anti-Corruption Department initiated legal proceedings against Murugan and six other family members for illegally acquiring assets that exceed their reported income. The First Information Report (FIR) has been released regarding the matter.

The corruption case registered by the Anti-Corruption Bureau involves Rameswara Murugan, his wife Akhilandeshwari, his father Chinna Palanichami, mother Mangaiyakarasi, father-in-law Idudai Nambi, and mother-in-law Anandhi.

The FIR alleges that Murugan, who held various positions from 2012 to 2016, accumulated assets in his name and his family’s name that amount to 354.66 percent more than his reported income. The Anti-Corruption Department has also published a list of the assets acquired during the four-year period.

According to reports, Murugan owns properties worth INR 1 crore 98 lakhs, while his wife possesses properties worth INR 6 crores 52 lakhs 50 thousand. Additionally, the family holds substantial assets, including agricultural land and bank accounts worth crores.

The FIR further outlines that Murugan’s accumulated income over the past four years exceeds his reported income from the positions he held. In light of these developments, the Anti-Corruption Department carried out raids on Murugan’s parents’ residence in Kopichettipalayam, Erode district, as well as his own residence in Kilipakkam, Chennai. Various significant documents were seized during the raid.

Murugan has held positions such as the Director of Primary School, Director of School Education, and Director of the State Institute of Educational Research and Training. The anti-corruption department suspects irregularities in several projects related to his responsibilities and alleges that Murugan concealed income from investments without proper accounting.

The FIR states that the case has been registered against Murugan’s wife and family members for the acquisition of movable and immovable properties. The investigations are ongoing, and further details of the case are expected to emerge in due course.
