The Russia-Ukraine war, considered from Mackinder’s geopolitical theory of Heartland.- Mtro. Filiberto Oropeza Fabián

This article analyzes the territory of Ukraine as a center of attention and dispute based on the geopolitical theory developed by H. J. Mackinder on the so-called Eurasian Heartland, which gives importance to the study of territorial space in terms of domination and power. Based on this geopolitical proposal, we seek to understand the Russia-Ukraine war conflict that has been developing since February 24, 2022 in Eastern Europe. To understand the reason for this war, the geopolitical and strategic interests of Russia, which seeks to impose its presence and hegemony as a regional power, and the actions developed by the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), are put into perspective. aimed at countering Russia’s war actions and pretensions through military, economic and logistical support to Ukraine during the conflict.
