Empire of the Ants is back, and this time it’s in the form of a video game. The real-time strategy adventure is based on the popular sci-fi novel series of the same name, which was first released 32 years ago. Set to be released in 2024, Empire of the Ants promises to offer players a unique experience with its stunning graphics, courtesy of Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5.
One of the standout features of the game is its attention to detail when it comes to the ants themselves. The developers have used Unreal Engine’s Nanite technology to create realistic visuals, making the ants look incredibly lifelike. Players will take control of the ant known as 103 683rd, as it embarks on a quest to find a better life for its colony in the depths of a French forest.
The gameplay involves strategy planning, exploration, and combat skills as players navigate through various challenges. They will also have the opportunity to form alliances with other bugs and creatures in the forest, enhancing their chances of survival. A first-look teaser trailer released by publisher Microids and developer Tower Five showcases the game’s photorealism, with detailed renderings of dirt, pebbles, branches, and other forest elements.
Empire of the Ants is based on Bernard Werber’s 1991 sci-fi novel, “The Ants.” The novel tells the parallel story of humans in Paris and an ant colony in a nearby park, both faced with their own mysteries and obstacles. Werber continued the series with “The Day of the Ants” in 1992 and “The Revolution of the Ants” in 1996.
This is not the first time a video game has been made based on Empire of the Ants. A 3D strategy game version was released by Microids in 2000 but received mixed reviews from critics. Tower Five, the developer behind the upcoming game, has previously worked on the strategy game Lornsword Winter Time.news and the 2020 remake of XIII, which was poorly received.
