Man’s Body Found on Railroad Tracks in South Sacramento, Investigation Underway

The Sacramento Police Department is currently investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered on railroad tracks in south Sacramento. The incident occurred around midnight on Thursday, causing a brief interruption of Blue Line train service between Sacramento City College and Cosumnes River College, according to officials from Sacramento Regional Transit.

Officers were initially called to Fernandez Drive and 38th Avenue in the Brentwood section of the city after receiving a report about a man lying down on the tracks. Officer Anthony Gamble, a spokesman for the Police Department, stated that the man was pronounced dead by city firefighters.

Authorities have determined that the man was not hit by a train on the Union Pacific-owned right-of-way. As a result, detectives were called to the scene in order to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. The cause of death has not yet been determined, and it is unclear whether the man had any gunshot wounds or other signs of trauma.

During the investigation, Fruitridge Road and 26th Avenue were closed to vehicle traffic after a Union Pacific train was forced to stop. This closure inconvenienced commuters, resulting in a more than three-hour interruption of Blue Line service. To assist riders during this time, a bus bridge was established. Fortunately, service was restored just before 10 a.m.

The identity of the deceased man is expected to be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once his next of kin is notified. The investigation into his death is ongoing, and the police have not made any statements regarding the possibility of a homicide.

As the investigation continues, the Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information that could assist in the case to come forward.
