The death of Antonio Macías Montaño, a 28-year-old Colombian-Israeli young man, was confirmed this Friday, October 13. Macías Montaño was the father of Manuela, a 6-year-old girl, who he was raising with Ivonne, who was also the mother of Aviel, a four-year-old boy. The couple had been together for three years and had met in Israel, and since then they had made the decision to start a family.
The young man worked as a barber and hairdresser. His family had been living in that country for more than three decades; That is why he had dual nationality.
His aunt, Sandra Paola Montaño, was the person who confirmed to Noticias Caracol that the Israeli Army contacted them to notify them of Antonio’s death. In addition to reporting that some friends of the Colombian couple confirmed that they had managed to reach a bunker, as Ivonne had told her father.
‘Daddy, we’re at war.’ I did not understand. He told me: ‘I’m going to look for a bunker.’ And the whole conversation ended,” Julio Rubio, father of the murdered young woman, had told Caracol Radio.

Álex Macías, Antonio’s cousin, also shared with Semana some of the minutes of horror that the 18-year-old experienced.
“In a first call, they told my aunt that they were at war. After her, Antonio called her again and told her: ‘Mom, they’re here. It is a massacre, it is a total war.’ The last thing I heard about them was that they were going with a friend, who told my aunt that they were massacring people and that they took refuge in a bunker,” he initially indicated.
The man also told this medium that Antonio’s mother, after finding out that her son was among the victims of the Hamas attack, preferred to deal with the news that he had died and not that he had been kidnapped.
“As my aunt said: ‘I prefer to know things. Knowing that they ended his life and that he has not suffered any more,’ that was what my aunt told me verbatim,” added the cousin of the murdered Colombian.
Macías and Rubio become two of the more than 600 people who died that day, after the massacre. Many of the victims were foreigners and tourists.
