Zacatecas will enjoy annular solar eclipse, a natural phenomenon that will travel throughout the country

This October 14 it will be visible in Zacatecas; It will begin its phase in Baja California Sur, after 9:00 a.m., and will end around 1:00 p.m. in Quintana Roo; Its maximum point will be around 11:08 a.m.
The previous visible annular solar eclipse took place on May 30, 1984, making it one of the most anticipated astronomical phenomena
Zacatecans and Zacatecans will be able to enjoy this phenomenon safely at the observation headquarters coordinated by Cozcyt, where 5,000 glasses with solar filter will be made available.

Zacatecas, Zac., October 13, 2023.- In line with the strategies promoted by the Government of Zacatecas, headed by state president David Monreal Ávila, to transform the region and promote activities related to education, the Zacatecano Science Council , Technology and Innovation (Cozcyt) invites the general population to participate in a series of events to be held around the annular solar eclipse, which will take place this Saturday, October 14.

The annular solar eclipse is a rare and spectacular phenomenon in which the moon passes in front of the Sun, but does not completely cover its disk, resulting in a bright ring of fire around the edge of the Earth’s satellite, which will create a celestial view awesome; This Saturday, the astronomical phenomenon will reach its peak after 11:00 a.m.

The last time Mexico was able to enjoy an annular solar eclipse of this magnitude was in 1984, making it a particularly special occasion.

The annular solar eclipse will cover a large part of the national territory and Zacatecas will be within the route.

While solar eclipses are amazing events, it is essential to remember that observing the sun directly can be dangerous to your eyes, so precautions should be taken to ensure safe viewing.

To do this, Cozcyt, through the Zigzag Interactive Center of Science and Technology of Zacatecas, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Astronomical Society of Zacatecas, the Science Museum of the Autonomous University of Zacatecas (UAZ), the National Institute of Anthropology and History and the State Network of Community Museums, have organized a series of events open to the entire population.

The main event will take place at the Zigzag facilities, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In addition, there will be additional locations in strategic locations for safe observation, such as: SIZART, the Master’s Degree in Education and Professional Teaching Development in the Postgraduate Tower of Campus II of the Autonomous University of Zacatecas, the UAZ University Museum of Sciences, several archaeological zones and multiple community museums distributed throughout the state.

In an effort to guarantee safe observation, Cozcyt has purchased 5,000 sunglasses with sunscreen, which will be distributed among attendees at the observation venues. This material will allow attendees to enjoy the phenomenon without risking their visual health. For more information about this, you can contact the Cozcyt and Zigzag offices.

These actions will continue in the face of the solar eclipse scheduled for April 8, 2024, strengthening the learning of science and astronomy among present and future generations, thereby promoting interest in exploration and discovery in the field of science and technology.
