An accident during work on the temple of an evangelical church caused the death of a 70-year-old pastor, who was electrocuted, suffering a high voltage discharge.

The pastor’s identity was not revealed by authorities in the municipality of Cataguases, in the Minas Gerais forest zone region. Initial information indicates that the accident happened while he was trying to lift a 6-meter iron bar.

Without help to direct his movements, the pastor ended up touching the bar to the wiring that passes through the posts in front of the temple. According to information from the newspaper State of Minesthe electrical discharge reached 22 thousand watts.

The shock caused him to fall from the fourth floor of the building, a height of 14 meters. When he fell, he collided with the church wall and died at the scene due to head trauma. People who witnessed the accident called the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU), but nothing could be done by the rescuers.

Recurring tragedies

Electrical accidents in evangelical churches are not rare. In November 2017, an Assembly pastor in Floriano, Piauí, died electrocuted while preparing the temple for an event.

Another case was registered a month later, in an Assembly of God in Jaú do Tocantins, while worked as a sound technician in preparation for an event.

Two years later, a 13-year-old girl died from electrocution while helping a group clean the temple. She suffered a shock when picking up a microphone to put away.

In December 2019, a pastor preached during a service in Manaus and suffered an electric shock through the microphone that I was using at the time. It was raining heavily, and at one point there was a power outage. When the current normalized, the voltage spike ended up causing the shock that killed him.
