High waves reportedly hit the capital Nakolufa, causing flooding on roads and flooding homes.
Tonga King, Tofu VI, was evacuated from his palace, and a convoy of police and soldiers reportedly evacuated him to another residence.
Following the events, a tsunami warning was issued on the northern island of New Zealand and on the west coast of the United States from California in the south to Alaska in the north, and also in part of Canada.
Satellite images from the area indicate ash clouds and shock waves that hit the eruption area.
The “Honga Toga Honga Apai” volcano first erupted on Friday, then experienced a second eruption today at 05:26, local time.
