There was not a good time to go to the refreshment bar during the first period of this last quarter-final of the Rugby World Cup, between France and South Africa, this Sunday. Playful and excited, the two teams offered an offensive festival to return to the locker room with a parity score (19-19), but with a new record: that of the most prolific half-time in the history of the competition on a knockout match.
6 – 6 trials were registered during the 1st period of #FRAvRSA, the highest total for a World Cup knockout match. This is also the first time that South Africa has conceded 3 tries in the first half during a World Cup. Historical. pic.twitter.com/34nAXvliuR

In total, six tries were scored during the first forty minutes, three on both sides. It was better not to miss the kick-off: the Blues struck hard from the start, thanks to Cyril Baille (4th), but were immediately calmed down by the Springboks, who picked up thanks to Kurt-Lee Arendse ( 8th). South Africa then went ahead twice, but France returned blow for blow. Peato Mauvaka (22nd) responded to Damian De Allende (18th), like Baille (31st), again, after a try from Cheslin Kolbe (26th).
Along the way, Fabien Galthié’s men managed to make their opponents falter like rarely in their history at the World Cup. According to Opta, this is the first time that South Africa has conceded three tries in a first period in this competition.
