Barrio Parque, one of the four Córdoba clubs to participate in the Argentine Basketball League and one of the main cheerleaders of the promotion division, will begin its eleventh consecutive season in the category with renewed expectations.

It debuts in the 2023/2024 season this Monday, from 10 p.m., hosting Sportivo Suardi from Santa Fe at the Teatro del Parque. Suardi had its debut on Saturday, with a defeat against Atenas at the Cerutti by 80-73.

The Greens of the South will face their new participation with the debutant in the category, Esteban Pierdominici, who took the reins of the team in August after leading Racing de Córdoba in the associative tournament and after the departure of Gustavo Peirone from the club, who is at the front of Athens.

After a surprising elimination last season in the quarterfinals, when it had obtained the “1” for the entire playoff phase and with a renewed formation, especially in its midfield (Santiago Andrione, Benjamín Giorgetti joined and Valentín Bauducco returned) and supported by the regular contributions of the experienced Lautaro Rivata (historic captain) and Tomás Ligorria, Barrio Parque will try to deploy a game of intensity, intense defense and fast counterattack.

First to begin preseason work (on August 2), those led by Pierdominici crowned an auspicious program of friendly matches, where not only did he measure up but also allowed him to “raise” his hopes to be able to play a good role in the looming competition.

In the last set-up before the start of their participation, Mundo D spoke with their coach to find out how the preparation was and how they are getting to their debut.

-How was the preparatory process?

-It was very good. We are very happy and satisfied with the work we do with the kids. The truth is that starting on August 2, with a lot of time in advance, had a tremendous predisposition from the boys, from day one. Although we still need to polish details and finish building everything we want, the process was good and with many friends. We fulfilled the planning we wanted and the necessary filming to arrive at the debut in the best conditions we could.

-How do you arrive at your debut?

-More than anything with great desire. Very anxious and looking forward to the tournament starting now. From my point of view, as well as that of the technical staff, we are doing well. We were able to comply with what was planned and that allows us to be in optimal conditions to start. Obviously there will be mistakes and we will fail in some things due to the logic of it being the first game, but I think that as the tournament goes on we will become more established. But let’s hope we can start on the right foot.

-With what expectations will you face the season?

-With the best. Knowing that we are in an institution that has a history within the category. It has been a protagonist for many years and in cutting-edge positions, so we face it as a very big challenge that lies ahead of us. But we are also very calm. We know that it is a long, very difficult tournament and that the best we can do is meet short objectives. We know that the club always aims to be a protagonist, that is why we will try to be competitive and be in the forefront. As I told the boys, we should meet the objectives that we set for ourselves to try to be the last to turn off the light. It is the wish of everyone and the institution. We all prepare for the same thing. The champion is one, but we prepare for the maximum, to reach the last.

-What do you think of Suardi, your first rival?

-He is a very respectable rival. A team that, although it could not achieve direct promotion from the Federal League, is also deserving of being where it is. Because he has been doing great work for many years with a base of important players, who have been playing together for a long time and that makes them dangerous. They have a great coach and a well-defined and distinguished philosophy. We should not trust ourselves either because we are local or because we have beaten them in the Super 8. It will be a different game. It is a debut and I think we have to respect it like all rivals. You can’t look down on anyone. Everyone can beat everyone. That is why we will have to be focused and exploit our strengths.
