When it comes to “domestic” football, we often talk about the “five big European championships”. Of England and its multibillion-dollar “Premier League” in terms of TV rights (6 billion per season), far ahead of the others. Then come Spain, Germany, Italy, and France, all fairly close championships.

While the French channels interested in the rights to Ligue 1 for the period 2024-2029 must submit their “qualitative offers” to the Professional Football League (LFP) this Monday and “quantitative” this Tuesday, we wondered how much a English fan paid to follow the Premier League, how much a German paid for the Bundesliga, a Spaniard for the Liga, etc.

England

Across the Channel, in the toughest championship, not all of the ten matches per day are broadcast. The Sky Sports offer, between 23 euros and 25 euros per month, is proving successful, with three big posters per day. Sky Sports also relies on a team of highly regarded consultants, such as Thierry Henry and Gary Neville. But to be complete, the English fan must also take out a subscription to BT Sport, the first offer of which starts at 14 euros. For this price, he benefits from a fourth Premier League poster per day, but above all from all Champions League matches.

Italy

The Italian viewer benefits from rather controlled prices. To follow Series A as a whole on DAZN, it costs 30 euros per month. To watch the Champions League, it adds either 4.99 euros/month for the best match on Wednesday evening on Amazon, or 7.99 euros/month for all matches on Infinity.

Spain

You must take out two subscriptions to follow the ten weekly La Liga matches: a first for five matches at DAZN (18.99 euros/month) and a second for the other five at Movistar + (14 euros/month). This latest subscription gives access to the best Champions League posters, without extra charge. For the record, the two suppliers ensure that Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are shared equally. They have entered into an agreement until 2027 to each broadcast a clasico on their channel.

Germany

On the other side of the Rhine, the price of football on TV tends to soar. To watch the Bundesliga in its entirety, German fans must take out two subscriptions and pay around 50 euros per month. Sky Sports offers five matches per day (30 euros/month), and DAZN four (19.99 euros/month). To follow the Champions League, he must agree to an additional cost ranging from 5 euros (Sky) to 10 euros (DAZN).

France

The entire Ligue 1 costs around 45 euros/month, between Amazon, seven matches per day (21.98 euros/month) and Canal +, two weekly matches (22.99 euros/month). However, the score gets tougher when it comes to the European Cup. On RMC Sport, the C1 is billed at 19 euros/month for six months, then increases to 29 euros/month. On Canal +, the subscription including Ligue 1 + C1 remains at 25.99 euros for the first six months, then reaches 39.99 euros/month…
