Journalist Fabrizio Borghini dies after falling ill during his son’s film premiere: he was 76 years old

The Florentine journalist, writer, documentary maker and essayist Fabrizio Borghini, author of numerous books dedicated to cinema but also to Florence and football, died suddenly at the age of 76, struck by an illness, at the screening of his son Lorenzo’s first film , “Double step”. A special event, perhaps too strong an emotion linked to the debut of his director son: Fabrizio Borghini collapsed on Saturday evening in the hall of the Spazio Alfieri in Florence during the public presentation of the film, which he himself organized. “Doppio passi” tells the story of Claudio (Giulio Beranek), known for several years as the captain of Carrarese Calcio, thanks also to his great ability as a leader both on and off the pitch.

The announcement of Fabrizio Borghini’s passing was made by Sandro Bennucci, president of the Tuscany Press Association, who remembers him as a “journalist passionate about Florence, cinema and culture”. “Cinema was a great passion of his to which he had also brought his son, a very young director. Florence was among the favorite subjects of his work. He had also recently published volumes on San Frediano and the little big stories of the most loved neighbourhood”, he said Bennucci.

Biography

Born in 1947 in Florence, where he graduated in Literature with a thesis on the director Mario Monicelli. Fabrizio Borghini wrote the biographies of Fosco Giachetti, Mario Monicelli, Odoardo Spadaro and the volumes “Tirrenia.
