DIG/ While he had announced, upon taking office, the opening of an investigation into supposed financial favors granted by the former president of the Cemac commission, Daniel Ona Ondo, to those close to him, his successor seems to have taken the same path.

Indeed, designated on March 17, 2023 as president of the Commission of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (Cémac), by the heads of state of this organization bringing together six countries, Baltasar Engonga Edjo’o is already starting to pose a problem for his management of the institution’s human resources and finances.

The former Equatorial Guinean Minister of State in charge of Integration (for 12 years) seems to have started some time ago in staggering financial expenses which have raised questions since last August.

The first expense is related at his aunt’s funeral.

The president of the Cémac Commission has, in fact, ordered the disbursement of a sum of 25 million FCFA under the Advance Fund “to deal with the Commission’s participation in the funeral of the President’s aunt in Mongomo”can we read in an official document dated August 29, 2023, signed by the person concerned.

The said document specifies that “this expense is deducted from account B64500 under the Social Assistance Fund” and is managed by his chief of staff.

The second expense is an amount of nearly 80 million FCFA disbursed for “chief of staff compensation not taken into account over the period from June 19, 2019 to June 30, 2023 and deducted from account number B65907”.

According to the accounting documents, the sum in question was paid to the named Lamine Djika Mohamadou.

All in all, it’s an amount of nearly 105 million FCFA which was disbursed on the order of the president of the Cémac Commission. Without real justification.
