The 2023 season of Renfese’s “Transcantbrico Gran Lujo” will close with one last trip, which will begin on November 4, with a special program that covers four days and three nights between San Sebastin and Gijón with stops in Santander, Cabezín de la Sal, Llanes and Oviedo.

This journey is carried out in the context of the fortieth anniversary of the launch of this train, which began to circulate in 1983 between León and Matallana de Toro, and as the culmination of an edition in which its occupancy has been 100 percent. Eltren offers fourteen suites that have a bedroom, either with a king size bed or double bed, a private full bathroom and a living room.
For this occasion, Renfe also offers special prices: 1,500 euros per person in a double suite to which must be added, if the passenger travels in Individual, a supplement of 1,200 euros and eight hundred euros for the third person in a triple suite.
Forty years of service
This season also coincides with the anniversary of this tourist proposal. During forty years of service, interrupted only by the pandemic, the Transcantbrico Gran Lujo has established itself as one of the most recognized trains of these characteristics on the international scene. In these four decades, it has made 1,511 departures of eight days each, with a total of 60,510 passengers, 80 percent of them International, and 10,577 overnight stays on board. It is the first in the world in metric gauge and its implementation represented a challenge in the Spanish railway panorama and a novel commitment to recreate the atmosphere of the Belle Poque trains.
The proposals on any of its departures include accommodation on the train, which stops at night at a station along the way to facilitate travelers’ rest. Also the trips to places located beyond the tracks, the accompanying guides and a gourmet gastronomic offer, both on board the train, which has its own kitchen, and in the restaurants of some of the cities visited.
