Geraint Thomas is still valid. The Welshman was 2nd in the 2023 Giro d’Italia and podium in the 2022 Tour de France, delivering results that INEOS expected from other riders. Still, the historic cyclist knows that his time is running out and he wants to make one more attempt next year.
But he knows that the situation will be more complicated than ever, especially in the Tour, with Vingegaard, Pogacar, Roglic and Evenepoel leading teams. “It will be a very interesting Tour,” he said on the GTCC podcast. “Roglic in BORA is great news for the sport,” he added.
“Still, I think Vingegaard is number one, then Pogacar, and further back the other two,” he analyzed. “I’m going to wait for the Tour route, which attracts me because of its finish in Nice. But I could go to the Giro, with a typical route,” he concluded, stating that he could have beaten Roglic in Italy if he had not been ill previously.
