Apple Investigating Display Brightness Issue on Some Apple Watch Models
Apple is currently investigating an issue where the display brightness briefly flickers or “pulses” on certain Apple Watch models when the Always On mode is enabled. This information was shared with Apple Authorized Service Providers in an internal service memo.
Although the memo does not specify which Apple Watch models are affected, it seems that the problem is most prevalent on the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 models that were released last month. Complaints from customers about this issue have been reported on various platforms, including the MacRumors Forums, Reddit, and the Apple Support Community website. The problem has been observed across all watchOS 10 versions, including the latest release, watchOS 10.0.2.
According to Apple’s instructions in the memo, service providers should not attempt to repair affected watches. Instead, they are advised to inform customers to keep their Apple Watch software up to date. This suggests that Apple is working on a fix for this issue and will likely provide it in a future watchOS update. It remains uncertain whether the upcoming watchOS 10.1, expected to be released next week, will address this problem.
In the meantime, Apple suggests a temporary solution for affected customers. They can turn off the Always On mode in the Settings app under Display & Brightness → Always On.
In addition to the display brightness issue, Apple is also investigating another problem mentioned in the same internal memo. Some users have reported that complications, such as the Activity rings on a watch face, might “temporarily turn pink.” Apple is actively looking into this issue as well.
