Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams is set to miss several games due to an ankle sprain he sustained in Sunday’s victory over the Arizona Cardinals, according to a source close to the team. However, the source also stated that Williams should return to action by the latest after the Rams’ Week 10 bye.
Williams had an exceptional performance against the Cardinals, rushing for a career-high 158 yards along with a touchdown. Nevertheless, the ankle injury will keep him sidelined for at least Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, as previously reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Furthermore, running back Ronnie Rivers also suffered an injury in the same game, sustaining a knee injury. The specific timelines for both players’ return were not provided by coach Sean McVay, who mentioned that the outlook for their immediate future seems challenging.
To address the absence of Williams and Rivers, the Rams have made some roster moves. They elevated Royce Freeman to the active roster and signed Darrell Henderson, who had previously been waived by the team last season, to the practice squad. In addition, the Rams signed running back Myles Gaskin from the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad and added him to their active roster.
McVay acknowledged that the team is still working on devising a plan without Williams and Rivers. He also highlighted rookie running back Zach Evans, who received the first carries after the injuries occurred during Sunday’s game.
Through the first six games of the season, Williams has been a key contributor for the Rams, accumulating 456 rushing yards on 97 carries and 105 receiving yards on 13 catches. The second-year player began the season as the team’s No. 2 back but quickly earned the starting position after a strong showing in the opener.
Williams has accounted for seven total touchdowns this season, including six rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown.
