The Kecskemét Public Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against a taxi driver in Szeged, who in two weeks transported 12 border violators from the Serbian-Hungarian border to Budapest in three vehicles, announced the Bács-Kiskun County Prosecutor’s Office. In August 2022, the man from Szeged took eight illegally entering foreign citizens from near the Serbian-Hungarian border to Budapest in two successful transports. The defendant made both trips with his own taxi and earned a total of 1,000 euros. Later, on September 3 last year, at a gas station near Röszke, he picked up four Indian citizens who had entered the country illegally in his taxi. They agreed that he would take them to Budapest for a fare of 750 euros. He was driving on the M5 motorway when the police stopped him near Lajosmizse, gave him an ID and then took him into custody. The prosecution accuses the man of human trafficking committed as a business.
