GOMA – In order to make Congolese women and girls independent and autonomous and to fight against unemployment and poverty, the Belgian-Congolese association Afrikin has just provided the girls and women of the Mugunga and Lac Vert districts in Goma with ‘a mixed hair salon. As of this Wednesday, October 18, 2023, Afrikin-RDC officially handed over the hair salon to these vulnerable girls and women from the western part of the city.
These women, who first benefited from accelerated training in women’s and men’s hairdressing, will exploit the hairdressing salon for their empowerment and community resilience in order to contribute to building peace in their respective neighborhoods.
A moment of exchange and conviviality dominated this handover ceremony where the beneficiaries thanked the volunteers of Afrikin Goma and Belgium by promising to manage this tool well like a good mother. Micheline Matungulu will be the main manager in the salon: “We have incredible joy after receiving the key to our hair salon which will change not only our lives but also those of our families and our communities. This is why we can only thank Afrikin Belgium and its partners in the Belgian municipality of Kontich for this donation and ask them to continue to support us because our needs remain enormous. Thank you again very much and God bless you.”
For Paulin Munyagala, one of the Afrikin volunteers in Goma, it is a pleasure to see that the team has responded to this need of girls and women which will allow them to be at least autonomous and to have recipes for their families. He adds that these women will always be supported during the exercise of their profession. It should be added that on this same occasion a manager was elected to manage the hair salon.
