Adele Reveals She Has Quit Drinking During Vegas Residency Performance

Las Vegas, NV – Grammy-winning singer Adele surprised fans during her performance at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Saturday by revealing that she has quit drinking. The announcement came as the 20-time Grammy winner opened up about her past struggles with alcohol.

Adele shared with the crowd, “I stopped drinking maybe like three and a half months ago. It’s boring. I mean, I was literally borderline alcoholic for quite a lot of my 20s, but I miss it so much.” Despite her decision to quit drinking, the singer admitted to feeling jealous of her fans enjoying drinks like whiskey sours.

This revelation about Adele’s sobriety isn’t the first time she has discussed her complicated relationship with alcohol. In an interview with Vogue earlier this year, the singer-songwriter spoke about grappling with fame and considering leaving the music industry. Adele reflected on the impact of Amy Winehouse’s death, saying, “I got really famous right as Amy Winehouse died, and we watched her die right in front of our eyes.” This experience made her worry about losing control and led to her close relationship with alcohol.

“I’ve always had a very close relationship with alcohol. I was always very fascinated by alcohol,” Adele explained. “It’s what kept my dad from me. So I always wanted to know what was so great about it.”

In a previous interview with Rolling Stone in 2021, Adele revealed that she had previously given up drinking for six months due to the “hangxiety” she experienced following her divorce announcement.

Adele’s Las Vegas residency, “The Weekends With Adele,” initially faced delays but finally kicked off in November 2022. The residency has been well-received by fans, and a new leg of shows began in June and is set to conclude in November.

As Adele continues to navigate her career and personal life, her decision to quit drinking highlights her commitment to her health and growth. Fans are looking forward to witnessing her incredible talent unfold on stage, free from the burdens of alcohol addiction.
