Doctors and pharmacists send an emergency call to the Chancellor

Pharmacists’ associations and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians send an “emergency call” to the Federal Chancellor. Delivery bottlenecks and gaps in care would endanger much more than just the health care of patients.

Emergency in pediatric medicine
Overwiening and the heads of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, Andreas Gassen, and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Dentists, Martin Hendges, called on Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) to intervene. There is a level of frustration in the practices that has never been experienced before, said Gassen.
Many practices cannot absorb increased costs, and there are bureaucratic requirements and digitalization, which costs a lot of money and slows down work processes. Hendges warned of impairments in the treatment of periodontitis due to measures to stabilize the financial status of statutory health insurance companies.
According to the three associations, 731,000 doctors, psychotherapists and medical assistants take care of 580 million treatment cases per year. In the 17,800 pharmacies with 160,000 employees, more than three million people are served and advised every day.
