The MTV network has canceled the celebration of its European Music Awards (MTV EMAs) “as a precaution” given the situation that is being experienced “at a global level” due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas. «We regret to inform you that the decision has been made not to move forward with the MTV EMAs 2023 out of caution towards the thousands of employees, team members, artists, ‘fans’ and partners who travel from all corners of the world to bring the show to life,” the television network says in a statement.

«As we watch the devastating events unfold in Israel and Gaza, it does not seem like the time for a global celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, it is a time for mourning. We hope to host the MTV EMAs again in November 2024,” concludes the text sent to the press. The gala, which was held last year in Düsseldorf (Germany), was scheduled for next November 5 at the Paris Nord Villepinte in France, a country that this week experienced an attack with the death of a teacher, in addition to several bomb threats at airports and other tourist infrastructures such as the Louvre Museum and the Palace of Versailles, which had to be evacuated and temporarily closed, as did the busy Parisian Gare de Lyon train station.

The MTV European Awards ceremony was to feature performances by artists such as Anne-Marie, Coi Leray, David Guetta, Jung Kook, Manuel Turizo, Ozuna, Rema, Reneé Rapp, Sabrina Carpenter and Thirty Seconds to Mars. Leigh-Anne, Lily Collins, Ashley Park, Fab Morvan and PinkPantheress were also scheduled to perform at the evening.

The favorites to emerge victorious in the evening were the American Taylor Swift, with a total of seven (including the three most sought-after: Best Artist, Best Song and Best Video); followed by Olivia Rodrigo and Sza, with six each; and Maneskin, Miley Cyrus, Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj with four. The nominees from our country are Abraham Mateo, Álvaro de Luna, Lola Indigo, Quevedo and Samantha Hudson, in addition to Rosalía, the only one competing for awards in non-Spanish categories.

Despite being a European awards gala, there is also a Latin presence with regional categories, with artists such as Rauw Alejandro, Peso Pluma, Myke Towers, Eladio Carrion, Mora, Young Miko, Sebastián Yatra, Manuel Turizo, Blessd, Feid, Danna Paola , Kenia Os, Kevin Kaarl, Siddhartha, Natanael Cano, Ryan Castro, Bizarrap, Duki, Fito Paez, Lali, Nicki Nicole, Anavitoria, Kevin O Chris, Luisa Sonza, Manu Gavassi or Matue.
