Apple TV Plus’ political talk show, “The Problem With Jon Stewart,” is coming to an end following disagreements between the host and the company. Stewart, famously known for his long stint as the host of “The Daily Show,” was considered one of Apple TV Plus’ major achievements when the show was first announced in 2020.
According to reports from The New York Times, the decision to end the show came after concerns about the guests and Stewart’s intended discussions of artificial intelligence and China. Apple reportedly expressed the need for Stewart and his team to be “aligned” with the company’s views on the topics discussed. However, rather than adhering to Apple’s demands, Stewart chose to walk away.
The Hollywood Reporter also stated that Apple approached Stewart directly and threatened to cancel the show if he did not comply with their requirements. Despite the ultimatum, Stewart decided to end the show.
Apple has not commented on the news of the show’s cancellation at the time of publication. It is unclear why Apple’s executive leadership and Stewart disagreed on the planned coverage of artificial intelligence and China. However, considering Apple’s need to maintain a cordial relationship with China for its future growth plans and the show’s pointed criticality, it is not surprising to see it being canceled.
