The loot is estimated at 150,000 euros. Two canneries in the Lot have suffered burglaries in recent days on their stocks of foie gras, Le Parisien learned after the Cahors prosecutor’s office, confirming information from The Midday Dispatch.

After entering the site of a cannery located in Saint-Pierre-Lafeuille, thugs entered the premises of a company in Gramat during the night from Saturday to Sunday. It is not yet clear whether the two cases are linked.

“We will now have to produce what has vanished”

“Our cannery is nevertheless secure, the alarm has gone off; but obviously they didn’t care. Their intervention must have been rapid, the burglars stole 800 kg of foie gras,” responded François Sudreau, head of a cannery in Saint-Pierre-Lafeuille.

According to him, only canned foie gras were targeted, which leads him to believe that the action deliberately targeted the most expensive products on the market within its production. The damage is estimated at 100,000 euros according to a local agricultural cooperative. In the company burglarized in Gramat, the operating mode is similar, according to director Jean-Luc Fouraignan. “This theft amounts to at least 50,000 euros of loss, considering the cost of manufacturing the product alone. This is a very significant loss for a company of our size,” he said.

A theft which causes colossal financial losses, but which puts both companies in difficulty as the New Year holidays approach: “The consequences are not only financial, we will now have to produce what has vanished to meet the customer orders, by manufacturing the missing merchandise,” explained François Sudreau.

An investigation was entrusted to the Lot gendarmerie group. The Cahors public prosecutor’s office did not wish to communicate other elements concerning the investigation at this stage.
