The CPI (Commission of Inquiry in Parliament) on January 8 approved its final report, with the request to prosecute former president Jair Bolsonaro and 60 other people, including five former ministers.

Senator Eliziane Gama’s report was approved by 20 votes in favor and 11 against. Grassroots legislators celebrated the result by holding up signs reading “No amnesty for coup plotters,” while the opposition shouted “shame.”

The final report, mandatory in parliamentary committees of inquiry, can only suggest prosecutions to the responsible authorities. The ICC intends to deliver the document to the PGR (Attorney General’s Office), the Federal Police and the STF (Supreme Federal Court) next week.

Eliziane affirmed that January 8 was “the work of Bolsonarism” and defended that the former president be charged with four crimes: illicit association, political violence, violent abolition of the democratic rule of law and coup d’état.

The report describes Bolsonaro as the “great mastermind” of the attacks and claims that he would be the biggest beneficiary of a coup. The commission ends after five months of investigations.
