The ‘radiant’ of the Orionids – OAN

The Orionid meteor shower which happens every year from October 2 to November 7, It will reach its peak of activity this weekend.
The Orionids are a meteor shower of moderate activity, they have an activity rate of between 15 and 70 meteors per hour and a high speed, 66 kilometers per second.
Peak rainfall activity is expected to occur on the night of October 21-22. The Moon will impair the visibility of the Orionids at the beginning of the night, but it will soon disappear below the horizon, allowing the meteors to be observed for much of the night. according to the National Astronomical Observatory (OAN).
For observers at latitudes such as those of peninsular Spain, 40º north, the Orionid radiant is above the horizon from midnight to dawn.
After the Orionids, the next major meteor shower will be the Geminids in the month of Decemberwith an activity rate of between 100 and 140 meteors per hour.
