From Friday October 20 to Sunday October 22, the first National Repair Days (JNR) are being held, coordinated by the Stop Planned Obsolescence (HOP) association and the Make.org Foundation. Over a thousand events celebrating repair are thus organized throughout France, a map allowing you to locate those that take place around your home.

Many Repair Cafés are open for the occasion. Volunteers repair items for people who come there – electronic devices, clothing, jewelry, bags – or teach them how to do so. In this type of place, it is advisable to arrive early to avoid the queue. Resource centers – shops where you can buy second-hand equipment donated by companies or individuals – are also opening their doors. The same goes for certain fablabs, these places equipped with machines allowing, for example, to manufacture a part that cannot be found, or to bring an old device up to date.

All of these structures are more common in large cities than in the countryside. In certain large household appliance stores, better distributed across the territory, it will however also be possible to benefit from free diagnostics provided by the after-sales service during these JNRs, or to meet volunteers giving repair advice to individuals.

The event map also lists meetings intended for a less general public, such as visits to repair workshops usually closed to the public or “job dating”, intended to raise awareness of the repair profession. Other events have a more political tone, such as conferences, debates or exhibitions.
