Prince Harry wants the escort back (paying for it out of his own pocket): legal action against the British authorities

by time news

The British royal family seems to find no peace. To bring havoc again is the principe Harry, second son of the heir to the throne who, after being torn from the Crown, with a lot of transfer to the United States with Meghan Markle, has decided to take legal action against the UK authorities. The reason? Have the guarantee of a special escort in the case of future stays in England.

The Duke of Sussex would also be willing to pay for it out of your own pocket, Harry told the Interior Ministry that in recent months he has responded negatively to his request. According to the Home Office, the prince is entitled to necessary protection but not to an extra and ad hoc escort, much less paid for independently. Hence the decision of the royal to apply to the High Court of London with an appeal filed by his lawyers in September, but made known only today by the same person concerned.

After renouncing the status of senior member of the family in order to live with greater freedom and financial autonomy, Harry has lost the right to the permanent protection service granted across the Channel, paid by the taxpayers, to the highest-ranking royals. To maintain an adequate level of privacy for himself and his family, consisting not only of his wife Meghan Markle but also of their two children, Archie e Lillibet Diana, therefore, the prince has hired a private escort who, however, for legal reasons cannot bring home when he returns. Which, due to the hand, seems to worry him a lot. Especially given the alleged future trips such as the one on the occasion of the celebrations of the Platinum Jubilee which will celebrate 70 years on the throne of Elizabeth II, destined to reach the climax in June.

The request for judicial review was made by the prince’s lawyers after an accident in London in July 2021 when the Duke of Sussex’s car was chased by photographers. On the other hand, a lawyer for the prince pointed out, “Harry inherited safety risks at birth, and throughout his life. Remains sixth in line of succession to the throne, he served on two combat missions in Afghanistan and in recent years his family has been subjected to well-documented neo-Nazi and extremist threats. The United Kingdom – he continues – will always be the prince’s home, a country where he wants his wife and children to be safe; but in the absence of police protection the personal risk is too great ”.
