Cottage Grove, MN – In a shocking development, authorities investigating the deaths of several dogs in Cottage Grove have rescued nearly two dozen dogs after executing a warrant in Andover. The investigation began when eight dogs were found dead on Grey Cloud Island on Sunday.

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Animal Humane Society, executed the warrant at a building near the 15800 block of Seventh Avenue Northwest on Friday morning. The operation was conducted in connection with the deaths of the dogs found on Grey Cloud Island.

The building searched on Friday is believed to be the location where the dogs found on Grey Cloud Island died. The exact cause of their deaths is still under investigation.

Just two days ago, Cottage Grove police announced that a person had confessed to dumping the dogs on Grey Cloud Island but is not believed to be the person responsible for their deaths.

During the execution of the warrant, the sheriff’s office removed 22 dogs from the facility. These rescued dogs are now being cared for by the Humane Society.

As of Friday afternoon, nobody has been arrested and no charges have been filed in relation to this case. The incident is still under investigation and authorities are not releasing any more information at this time.

The Humane Society, in response to the incident, issued a statement to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS. They confirmed that they had conducted preliminary necropsies on the eight deceased dogs and shared the findings with the Cottage Grove Police Department.

According to the Humane Society, they were requested to accompany officers to speak with a suspect in the case. As the investigation progressed, the humane agents were then asked by the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office to assist in removing dogs from a property in the county related to the Cottage Grove case.

In their statement, the Humane Society expressed their gratitude for being able to assist the authorities in finding answers in this heartbreaking situation. They mentioned that their humane agents are the only full-time professional humane investigators in the state and that they collaborate with local agencies and community members to provide aid and support whenever possible.

As the investigation continues, the community is left in shock and the fate of the rescued dogs remains uncertain. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
